| Cheater Cheater by Michael Erard - The Morning News Posted: 07 Jul 2010 08:58 PM PDT Everyone remembers their first, especially English professors. MICHAEL ERARD confronts a student he busted for cheating—and who caused him to completely rethink plagiarism. "So much for looking back together to see who we used to be. How long would it take for us to talk like two people, and not keep reverting to our old roles in the university's machine?" |
| Don't Let SEO Overpower Your Articles Posted: 07 Jul 2010 08:45 PM PDT As website owners, everyone knows how important search engine optimisation is for their online success. | Posted: 07 Jul 2010 07:36 AM PDT They say that the pen is mightier that the sword. This is especially true when writing for the web, as we don't usually see each other face to face. The intended tone of any article is, in itself, a writing skill – more so than in novels, as the author is trying to convey a definite message directly to a worldwide audience, without the help of facial expressions, tone of voice or body language. Have you ever wondered why some articles are more popular and gain more comments than others? Is it due to the style of writing, or simply the interesting content? Writing for the Web: Improve Your Skills in 9 Easy Steps How often have you read an online article, then had to read it over in order to fully understand what the author is saying? I'm not including tutorials or online lessons or courses that don't require too many words – it goes without saying that those articles have to be clear and concise to guide the reader. What I am trying to touch on here is something more personal – some |

| Posted: 07 Jul 2010 07:25 PM PDT SEO articles are supposed to be tight, concise, and short, only around 400 words. They have to have a high keyword density with at least three definite keywords. For example, an article about running could have three main keywords of running shoes, cardiovascular health, and aerobic exercise. In a 200 word article, if those keywords show up 10 times, then they have a keyword density of 5%, which isn’t bad. Articles are most effective when they have a keyword density of 5-7%. However, when writing articles in SEO format, you have to remember to write fluidly, so that even with a substantial keyword density the quality of your writing does not falter. Sentence structure and paragraphs should be the same as any other form of writing. During the course of writing the article, you shouldn’t be concerned about the keywords just yet. After you’ve finished writing the article, comb through it a few times, and add in the main keywords where you can. This may entail the rewriting of some sentences or even paragraphs, but proper, high quality SEO articles take a while to finish, because of the guidelines involved. Keeping your articles well written with a high enough keyword density will increase the long term value of your articles by making them more accessible to search engines. Don’t be discouraged if your articles take a while to create; as you become more experienced with SEO writing it will become easy for you to do, to the point where you may be write ten high value SEO articles a day. | Posted: 07 Jul 2010 07:21 PM PDT I’ve been writing online now for quite a while. I’ve worked on many sites, from revenue sharing sites to blogging just for fun, and I haven’t been able to generate a huge following of readers or really make that much money. Personally, I don’t think it’s my lack of writing skill, because I have been told on a number of occasions that my writing style is actually pretty decent. Really, I think it is the lack of time that I have to promote my work, and generate back links and traffic to articles that will only make me money when they receive heavy amounts of traffic. After spending around seven months writing for various writing sites like Bukisa and Infobarrel and collecting a few dollars every month. At the height of my earnings, I was making a little over thirty dollars a month from collective clicks and views. It took a lot of work, and almost 100 articles published that month to reach that milestone. My writing up to that point was limited to very specific categories that I knew would earn me at least 1000 views each. I was capitalizing on a trend (Farmville, to be exact), and while the rewards where relatively high when compared to previous earnings, I wasn’t enjoying what I wrote. To be frank, I was writing for money, and not a lot of it at that, and it burned me out. I didn’t want to write anymore, so I stopped, and my views and earnings plummeted. It was during this period that I discovered Demand Studios, a content provider that pays upfront for articles. I could write a single article, and earn $15.00 from it, no matter how well it did in terms of advertising and views. While this is a little risky for the employers, as they have to pay no matter if they earn money or not, for authors it’s a great deal. If I wrote as little as TEN articles a month, I would earn $150.00, five times more then my highest monthly earnings on sites that pay based on views. In the long run, I think that I could actually stand to earn quite a bit of money from Demand Studios. After only two months of on off writing because of exams, I have earned $210. Not bad, and if I could really sit down and write, I think I could stand to earn $1000 a month, if I really put my mind into it. Want to join me and see what I’m talking about? Go to www.demandstudios.com and fill out an application. They payout via Paypal, and require no more then some personal information and your resume before you can begin writing. You choose from a pool of about 100,000 articles, with around 400 new ones added each day. |
