Reverse Outsourcing: Why India Is Outsourcing Work To The U.S.

At first it might sound a little crazy to some, but it’s true. There are now many offshore destinations like India and the Philippines that are actually outsourcing work to US freelancers and companies. Not on everything of course. However for jobs like article marketing, content writing services and even some marketing and sales it is becoming a much more common trend.

This just goes to show the power of a free global market and it’s ability to correct and balance itself. Outsourcing has been booming in almost every industry and now its not just call centers and manufacturing that have been moved offshore. Among the most common tasks that are now outsourced is webdesign. While outsourcing webdesign can definitely offer huge savings while still providing great looking work, when it comes to content the story is slightly different.

Recently there was quite a bit of movement in the cost of content for web copy, article marketing and blogging. However those who have tasted this junk content have now realized that it is doing them more harm than good and in many cases does irreversible damage. Not only damage to search engine rankings but also reputation with consumers. And the fact the a first impression is everything is just as true today as it has been for centuries. So the demand for higher quality content is coming back. Those webdesign and Internet marketing companies who ignore this are soon to find a big whole in their pockets.

Savvy offshore webdesigners, project managers and Internet marketers are now realizing that they can still get the bulk of the business out there by offering lower prices, but can still offset the expense of providing high quality content that is being outsourced to native English speaking writers with the low cost of other parts of their services. This enables them to remain competitive and in fact stand out in a sea of in distinguishable providers as the choice for quality and first class work. This is great news for those providing quality content, however may be not so much for those who have been relying on taking advantage of naive entrepreneurs but selling them junk with big promises of high rankings and large volumes of traffic…

Here are 12 simple tips on how to prepare a presentation in PowerPoint.

1 If your company or organisation has a template for presentation slides, open it up; if there is a Style Guide it needs you to follow, do so.

2 Choose the title slide template and put down a provisonal title for the show in the larger box and your name, department or team in the smaller one, together with the date. You will come back to this slide later.

3 For the second slide choose the slide pattern which has the heading box and space for bullet points beneath. In the heading box put the title again or a shortened form of it (eg The Recycling Project). In the space below put the 6 – 8 main headings you will want to use.

4 Stay with this second slide for the moment. You may want to take the opportunity to change the two font sizes now apparent on the slide, and take each of them down a notch or two(eg 28pt to 24pt, or 36pt to 28pt). You may also want the title to be justified to the left inside its box (this gives you more room for text). Now use this slide set-up to save you doing it all again down the line.

5 Click on Insert New Slide Duplicate slide and you are instantly in the new one, all ready for you; start by taking out the texts still in there from slide 2. Put in the points you want to make in this, slide 3.

6 Proceed like this for the next two or three slides, varying text layout as you go in order to show something other than bullet points all the time.

7 At this point pause and take a moment to start estimating how many slides you want to end up with, within your timeslot allocation (presuming you have one). Work on the basis that you will need no more than 30 seconds for the title slide and maybe two minutes for slide 2. After that, more complicated ones may have to have up to five minutes each; less complicated ones, three minutes each. Remember you might also want to include ‘connecting slides’ of only 30 seconds each. If you want to end up with a final slide, saying Thank you or Any questions?, that will take just a minute. Then you should allow enough time to answer questions: after a presentation of around twenty minutes, you might need 10 – 15 slides in all.

So a typical calculation might be:

Slide 1 Title 0.5 minutes
Slide 2 Introduction summary 2 minutes
Slide 3 First main slide 3 minutes
Slide 4 Second main slide 3 minutes
Slide 5 Connecting slide 0.5 minutes
Slide 6 Third main slide 4 minutes
Slide 7 Fourth main slide 4 minutes
Slide 8 Short slide 1 minute
Slide 9 First closing slide 3 minutes
Slide 10 Second closing slide 2 minutes
Slide 11 Short slide 1 minute
Slide 12 Final slide 1 minute

That makes an estimated 25 minutes for this sketch example of a dozen slides. Depending on the subject matter and its complexity, the type and seniority of your audience and any time constraints, this will be shorter (but not too short!) or longer (but not too long!).

8 Go back to creating the individual slides where you left off, and begin to use animation and other effects as you need. Don’t overdo special effects as they can be seen as flashy and in some sense putting one over on the audience.

9 When you have completed your first draft bunch of slides, click Slide Show and let it run though. You will instantly see what has to be changed. Make a note of this and then go back and make the necessary corrections. Lastlyrevisit the title slide and make it as attractive as you can, perhaps with the addition of some well-chosen imagery, such as an artist’s impression of the new facility you are describing in this presentation.

10 Show the sldes to someone else – a ‘critical friend’ – and be prepared for them to criticise the show. Their perspective, particularly with regard to the style, tone, pace and coverage of the presentation will be invaluable.

11 Print out handouts or notes for just yourself or others, as you see fit. If you can, spend some time ‘learning’ what you are going to say and show.

12 Make sure that all technical aspects for showing the slides are the correct ones, and are all in place and that you know what you have to click on to start.
