Content is what that will never fade in the search engine. Content that is relevant to your blog, website and social media will always be on priority to search engines and will help you get good search engine optimization results.
Content rich – the term should not be wrongly interpreted. Use content to make your web entity rich properly. Content rich is not about millions of words and thousands of pages only. It is about using right amount of content as per the platform, i.e. website, blog, social media and mobile websites. Number of words is important per page, per post, per article. A social media post with 200 word content is not worth it in most cases other than very few exceptions. Social media content in face book page, posts, profile posts, image updates should be simple and precise. Easy to comprehend with relevant keywords to the image, post topic etc.
Content for a website on an average page wise again should not be very short, like 25-40 words. This is not enough to describe a product, service or idea in most cases.
Mobile content or content for a mobile website has to be precise, continuous with no dead end. Good links to click on for further information. The smaller mobile browser with limited space in a mobile and screen capacity the content should be written accordingly.
Use of Bold, Italics, colours is important particularly for content in mobile website. Bold and colours make it easy to get attention or navigate attention of readers. Links that are by trend more popular should be in italics and with special colours.
Bold, Italics and colours are also important in website content and blog content. The main idea words or small sentences if put in Bold gets attention of the reader faster and easier. It is about highlighting what we want our readers to see instantly as soon as they open a page in computer or mobile website or mobile blog.
Mobile seo is also dependent on content, description and keywords.

How to Do Competitive Analysis for Maryland SEO (Maryland Search Engine Marketing)

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 11:18 PM PST

With more than a 100 factors that are used in determining website rankings, you could spend a lot of time analyzing your competition and deciding upon your marketing strategy. However some of the ranking factors have more importance than others, so in the interest of time, we usually focus on just a few key items.

The measurements are:

  • Google Page Rank: 0/10 – Google scale is 0-10. This number is based on a number of factors and Google periodically changes how it is calculated. The higher this score, the more likely you are to be found in a Google search. You can use the prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php to check page rank.
  • Alexa Ranking: Alexa ranks every website based on the amount of traffic it receives. The lower the ranking the better – the more site traffic you have in comparison to other websites. (Google is ranked #1, Facebook is ranked #2, Youtube.com is ranked #3, Yahoo is ranked #4). To see this ranking use the Alexa.com website.
  • Google/Yahoo/Bing Index: This refers to the number of pages that are indexed for your site in the Google, Yahoo & Bing search engine. The bigger the score the better. Search engines have determined that a website can be an “authority” site if it has many pages of quality content. An example of this is Wikipedia, a site that has millions of pages and almost always shows up in a web search. To find the number of indexed pages, go to the search engine and type "site: Sitename.com".
  • Social Media Appearance: Social Media is a growing trend online. These sites can increase your brand image, link popularity, and products or services online exposure. Search sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and MySpace to see whether your competitors have taken advantage of social media. You may consider posting a Google Alert on your competitors names to see everything they are doing.
  • Links to Home: This refers to how many sites link to your home page the more links the better. You can use the Yahoo site explorer tool to check these links.
  • Links to other pages (deep %): This refers to the percentage of total links to the site which are to pages other than the home page. These links are usually very specific for a certain keyword phrase and are very important. The higher the percentage, the better.
  • Links to Whole Site: This refers to how many sites link to your whole site including home page the more links the better.
  • Dmoz ranking: This refers to how many entries your site has in the open directory, DMOZ.org. These entries are very important because they are highly ranked by the major search engines.
  • Creation Date: This refers to the date the domain was purchased and the first pages hosted online. The older the site, the better the search rankings. Buying an older domain saves you a great amount of time because it usually already has links pointing to it.

If you review these ranking factors before starting an Maryland SEO project, you will have a better understanding of the steps you’ll have to employ to rise above the competition on search rankings.

Importance of content writing in SEO

I guess it is time that the SEO in me surfaced

Posted: 25 Jan 2011 03:37 AM PST

It has been nearly three years since I delved into content writing. To be frank, I even do not have my own domain and am using the advantages of a free website provider to host a bit of information about my rates. I accept that the quality of my writing is not as good as that of others, but I always attempt to provide the best to my clients at reasonable prices. There are occasions when individuals question me whether I am willing to write search engine optimized articles for half-a-dollar per 500 words.

Knowing not whether to laugh or cry at them, I just ignore them. What is amazing is that many people who undertake work at those rates. Obviously, the quality suffers and more often than not, they copy the entire text from another website in its entirety. These writers charge the entire sum upfront and the purchaser cannot do anything against them. I also charge upfront, but until date, my image remains untarnished.

The truth be told, I am not an expert in all niches. You can check out the quality of my work on Ezine and over here on this blog. If you so want, you can check out the rates on my simple website.

A Good Year and ...

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 05:38 AM PST

It has been a while since the last post. I have not blogged in a year because I relished my new job and I have been writing for money. Technically, my job is not new anymore because I’ve been there a year, and oh it was a good year!

Yes, 2010 has been good and I’ve met very good people whom I thought I will never meet in my life. No, I’m not going to tell you about the contrasting working environment between my previous job and my present job. I’m not going there. Suffice it to say, that when I count my blessings, the fingers on both my hands and the toes on both my feet just won’t do. And I have complete extremities, mind you.

This is the year I secured my niche and shone.

Let me tell you about the other reason why I stopped writing leisurely. Roughly a year ago, I signed up to a web content writing job that required me to research and write non-sensical SEO articles with more or less five hundred words. That’s Search-Engine Optimized for you.

When you’re forced to produce at least 500 words nightly, even writing for your own personal pleasure feels like a task.

But I’m not complaining; this is the closest I can get to professional writing. When I look back to my aspirations when I was a youngster, all I could remember was how I wanted to become a writer.

I do not recall my young self telling the world that I want to be a clothes shop manager, or that I want to be in the fashion industry, or that I want to be in the top management. I just found myself in “operations” half a decade ago and I loved it.

The lousy articles I write, which I would like to boast to the world, takes me so little time to do, is a way for me to live out a childhood dream.

Maybe in the future, when I overcome my cultural crisis, I will be able to write something more worthwhile and something that would bear my name on the byline.

Content Writing

Posted: 20 Jan 2011 05:28 AM PST

A good Content writer just doesn’t exhibit the merits of the products and the services; He/she rather tries to explore the very many related keywords and then knit them together.

Web Site content writers at Webseva are aware of web limitations like:

· Straining of eyes contributing to less reading of the content

· Skimming and scanning of the text, rather than reading it word by word.

· No credibility guarantee for the content on web

· Aversion for information overload

Having learnt the many limitations of the web content, Webseva has zeroed down upon an efficient process involving lesser content, objective language, bulleted lists and highlighting the most important words. These guidelines will avoid irritation caused to the visitors and will compel them to keep visiting back.

My New seo Client

Posted: 19 Jan 2011 07:33 AM PST

Recently I came across a new client who was willing to pay me a decent sum of money per article. It took us a couple of days to iron things out before beginning to work. However, I was flabbergasted when I received his first assignment. He told me to write an article on `engines.’ Like the fool that I am, I wrote a technical article on the basics of engines, their discovery and by whom plus how they evolved over the years. In case I forgot to mention, the client had requested to complete the article within 250 words.

Those who are conversant with writing articles will well understand my dilemma. Writing even a short article on `engines’ requires a minimum of 1,000 words. However, if one cuts across corners, they can try to synopsize the same in 500 words, but 250 words… no way. However, since he was a new client and had paid me the money in advance, I decided to complete the task in as concise a manner as possible.

Oh, yes! He also requested that the keyword density should be 5%. I know that you are cursing me and thinking that I am fibbing. Well, it is a fact that I am not stating the truth. However, I have come across many types of clients in the three odd years that I have spent as a writer. Some of them have been quite good and the others not so good, whereas a number of them were horrible.

They are intermediaries who do not understand anything about content writing. They just bid for jobs on article bidding sites and pick up bulk orders. Then they break up each bulk order into small pieces and pass them on to their panel of writers. If the writer has any questions, there is no answer from them. At best, you can expect them to say `just do it in the best way you think fit.

My imaginary experiences were just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. After a week I received a mail from the client stating that he wanted an article on `search engines.’ According to him, I should have fathomed that part myself. According to him, in this era, nobody bothers for real engines. Search engines are the hottest topics. I would love to see his face if his car gets stuck in the middle of an empty highway, due to a faulty `engine.’

This is just my way of telling you about the pitfalls that you might fall into when writing articles, especially those used for search engine optimization of any website.

Why Johnny B. Truant Wears Women’s Underpants

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 06:52 AM PDT

image of female copywriter James Chartrand biting an apple

My name is Johnny B. Truant.

You might know me from stimulating enterprises such as The Badass Project or my own infamous blog, or maybe even the Copyblogger Weekly Wrap.

What you might not know is that I’m a woman.

This is not a joke or an angle or an analogy — I’m literally a woman.

This is my story.

Once upon a time, I found myself having to make some hard decisions.

Decisions like whether to have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or to go all Elvis and have a peanut butter and banana sandwich. But even that simple choice — as is always the case with such choices — got me thinking.

Later in his career, Elvis had the giant sideburns. And what made him successful? Obviously, it was those giant sideburns. Sideburns so big they were like micro-beards.

With hair like that, you could command any kind of sandwich you wanted.

I know that sounds like an odd thing to think about — and an odd thing to introduce my coming-out post with — but you’ve got to understand that just about every major event in my life has revolved in some way around facial hair, and my own inability to grow it.

You know, since I’m a woman.

The Western beardocracy

Growing up in rural Quebec, scraping by on my father’s salary as a union Zamboni lubricator, it didn’t take me long to learn the ugly truth about the world.

See, my father had a testosterone deficiency that kept his face perpetually smooth of whiskers. And despite working all the overtime he could (including a scab gig harvesting bamboo during the 1981 Montreal wicker strike), he was always the lowest man on the totem pole.

While other men with grand beards supported their families in luxury, we were reduced to wearing Salvation Army Hammer pants and subsisting on grainy crêpes and old brie.

I learned fast: the necessary ingredients for success are not talent and hard work, but awesome facial hair. Or at least (as I discovered later) the everpresent threat of awesome facial hair.

And like my father, I was out in the cold. Literally. He couldn’t grow a beard in the winter to keep his face warm and neither could I, earning us the condescending nickname “rosy cheeks.” At least, I’m pretty sure that’s what espèce d’imbecile means in French.

I had talent, intelligence, perseverance, and moxie — but it seemed that what was required to make it big were mustaches, beards, sideburns, goatees, soul patches, and fu manchus. You could raise some eyebrows by doing extraordinary things, but the handwriting was on the wall — you couldn’t make any true progress without the ability to grow an epic beard or an awesome mustache.

I won’t say that it’s a conspiracy. But I will say this: It’s a conspiracy.

All of the greatest people have always had great facial hair. God. Santa. Wilford Brimley. Frida Kahlo.

Others were occasionally smooth-faced … but you knew from looking at them that they could explode into an epic beard if it were required — in a fight-or-flight-or-beard scenario.

I mean, just look at Colin Farrell. If you tried to attack him, he’d just turn around and grow his beard at you, and the explosive growth would blow you into the wall.

I was tired of having no beard, no five-o-clock shadow, no stubble, and no threat whatsoever of growing something on my face that I could fashion into a windmill to win a contest.

I’d always had to fight and struggle and dig, but now it was time for something to change.

So I became a man (In name and beard only)

I was fresh off another rejection (“How could you have perfected cold fusion? You don’t even have a beard!”) and angry. It was maddening to not be able to convey my reckless nature by showing up to meetings unshaven.

I was registering domain names and getting hosting for a new blog I had in mind, but even as I did it, an insistent part of me said,

What’s the point? Everyone can see that you’ll never even have mutton chop sideburns. They’ll never watch your videos if they know they’ll always see a clean face.

And then I realized: I could be a dude.

This was the internet … I could be anyone

And if I were a guy, nobody would know that I’d been beardless all my life. Nobody would know about my chapped cheeks in January and the fact that the only shaving I needed after a week camping was on my legs.

People would assume that on any given day, I might have stubble or a mustache or a giant ZZ Top beard. And I could tease about it, casual-like, mentioning things like needing a shave and finding a few gray hairs in my beard.

And the best part? I wouldn’t even present myself as having a beard or a mustache. That was too obvious and too easy.

Instead, I decided I’d be a beard tease. A Colin Farrell. I wouldn’t show a huge beard or dominating mustache … but who knew what I’d have on my face from day to day?

That first blog was a niche site, and it quickly fell apart. I wrote posts like “10 Reasons Why Your Obsolete Beard is Holding You Back” and “How to Use Your Beard in Social Media.” I ranked #1 for coveted SEO phrases like “giant beard parsnip Ewok,” but in practice, it meant nothing. The site stagnated and then disintegrated.

And I thought:

Is it not strictly the beard that makes the difference? Could it possibly be the person behind the beard that matters?

So I adapted

I started writing fart jokes. I started writing about business. I began telling business-related fart jokes.

The beard agenda took a back seat, and the irony was palpable. I had become “Johnny” to use facial hair to my advantage, but it wasn’t mattering. People knew I could grow a beard if I wanted, so they didn’t care if it ever actually happened.

Slowly, I became “just Johnny.” Still a man, but without a beard. I eventually met Brian, Sonia, and Jon of Copyblogger, none of whom have beards, and we hit it off instantly.

“It’s amazing how far you’ve come without a beard,” I remember Sonia telling me on IM. “We thought we were the only ones who’d been able to make beardlessness work.”

I’d broken into the Good Old Beard network and it hadn’t even mattered.

The metaphorical emperor had no clothes. But now I was stuck; I had become a man and now I would have to remain a man. So I kept it up. Kept telling my fart jokes. Kept talking about business.

And so it went.

So what happens next?

I’ve proven my point. I have no facial hair, and yet I’ve done pretty well for myself.

My life, my terms. No one handed me anything. I’ve worked damned hard for this. I took care of myself, my family, and my desire for an epic beard. I’ve given the best of my facial-hair-related creativity and knowledge to each of my clients and readers.

I’d like to keep doing that.
