Go Big or Go Broke: The Ugly Truth about Marketing Online

Posted: 09 Apr 2011 12:37 PM PDT

Like anything else – if you have the passion to exceed your opposition – and you see the battle through to the end – to you, the victor, goes the spoils. This has always been a long-standing truth, and it rings true even in the e-commerce industry.

This is the "Ugly" Truth about marketing your online business. The internet today is full of businesses that are doing or selling in the exact same niche as you are. To think that something is completely original today is a joke. Only the strong, persevering companies survive in the jungle today. So here comes the question, "How can someone hit the riches through e-commerce in such a crowded market?"

The answer is you go BIG – Bigger than any of your competition. Does this necessarily mean that you have to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars? No, but it's going to be hard work – no one ever said this e-commerce marketing thing was going to be easy. When I get a marketing email from a company that I've never even heard of before, I laugh on the inside wondering what fool is marketing for this company. See, you've got to hit your potential customer base from all angles. We're talking Social Media, Press Releases, E-Mail marketing, SEO Optimization, Content Marketing, Meetups, Social Network Presence – and we can’t forget the Blog – it's truly a lot to do for one person, which is why people are beginning to outsource for this kind of stuff.

If you can understand the importance of online presence, then it makes much more sense. You want people to trust you, your products, and your brand – and the more that people become familiar with all three, the more they’re going to buy, use, recommend, and trust your products or services. If you can concentrate your energy on branching out throughout the internet instead of focusing on just one form of marketing, you will see a drastic increase in QUALIFIED leads.

One last note – This kind of stuff does not make you popular in a month. It takes time to build a brand out of an ordinary business online, and it takes absolute dedication and effort – but if you Go Big, then you'll be watching your company grow. If you go Broke – well, you're broke – time to try something new.

Why Go With Professional Proofreading?

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 08:28 PM PDT

Not all people are endowed with a natural ability to write expediently and without flaws. Even experienced writers are sometimes guilty in committing grammatical and spelling errors. This is why seeking the assistance of a professional proofreading service comes very handy for individuals who are not quite adept at writing, or for those who just wish to sound more formal and credible in their written composition.

It is not uncommon for a writer to miss out on his own mistakes. He knows too well the supposed flow and the overall gist of the composition that he tends to overlook certain errors in spelling, punctuation, and even grammar. This can be detrimental as small errors can spell out an air of amateurism. Having someone with a professional proofreading background can easily notice and correct these marginal errors.

Get Blog Traffic By Starting Arguments

Posted: 04 Apr 2011 07:29 AM PDT

man arguing with bloggers for traffic

If you want to get more traffic to your blog, the single most important thing you can do is to visit other blogs and comment on them. This isn’t forming a relationship, or building your network, or anything as vague as that. It’s searching Google Blogs for keywords that you use, reading the posts, and writing a comment that is going to get replies. Commenting on other blogs is the best and easiest way to get noticed and bring more traffic to your own blog.

Want to know how to make this work even better?

Start arguments in the comment section. Disagree with either other commenters or the author of the post and even more people are bound to take notice of you. Here are some tips for arguing on blogs to bring you more traffic:

“If someone is angry at you, they have an emotion towards you”

Call people out by name.

If you’re referring to a specific comment or poster, mention that person by name and then take time to explain why what they said was completely wrong. It’s important not to flame or brazenly insult anyone when you do this, but what you want to do is throw out some tongue-in-cheek innuendos, insinuating (but not saying) that they have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about.

Stir the Pot

Get in there and really take down some other people if you don’t agree with them, but be prepared to do some follow up comments defending your position. When you’re doing this you should check the ‘notify by email’ box that shows up on most blogs so that you don’t miss a few days of angry replies. (and there will be angry replies).

Why Does it Work?

If someone is angry at you, they have an emotion towards you, which creates a stronger memory in their mind. By making a psychological impact in some way, by causing them to think about you, you’ve already won the battle. Most people whom you offend will go to your blog just to find out how much of a jerk you really are, and chances are they’ll be telling their friends about it too. Or even better, writing about it on their blog, which only brings you more traffic.

Additionally, for every person that comments there are several hundred that don’t, but what they do is read and form an opinion about the commenters. If you can stir up disagreements in a thought provoking way, you’re going to get more people on your side, which will again bring you more traffic to your blog.

Don’t Pick Fights for the Sake of Fighting

There’s an art to beneficial argument. If you actually don’t disagree with someone, or can’t find any flaws in their reasoning, then don’t just start disagreeing with random things that you know nothing about. You’re going to lose that fight and then you’ll just look like a failure, or worse, an amateur blogger.

However, you should still post a comment even if you can’t argue, and that doesn’t just mean "nice post man." Figure out a way to stir up more discussion by asking questions or pointing out one aspect of the comment or article and just asking if they could expand on that.

Post for Replies

Your goal with posting comments on other blogs is to always get a reply to your comment.

This takes time, but if you can just put an hour into this per day you’ll start seeing a huge boost in visitors, leading to many times more traffic to your blog.

So when was the last time you started an argument?

- Andrew
