Freelance Writing Nerves

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 06:37 PM PDT

When I first started writing freelance online, it was hard for me to put myself out there. 'Selling myself' just seemed too much, and so not like me. I had to get over these nerves if I was going to make any money writing freelance online. I also had to change my way of thinking. Jobs were not just going to come to me. I needed to go out there and get them. With all that competition? YES! It can be a little scary, but follow these few steps and you can be out there with the rest of the freelance writers, selling yourself, getting the best freelance writing jobs, and earning yourself a stellar reputation.

  1. Tell yourself that you are an excellent writer and that you deserve these jobs. No one else will believe in your talent if YOU don't believe in yourself. Repeating a daily mantra will cement only confident thoughts and will help to erase any negative or doubtful ones you may have about your abilities to write or to procure writing jobs.
  2. Practice writing daily. Even if you don't have any writing jobs, you can still write articles and post them plenty of places online to help earn a little income. Think of this as an excellent practice session for when you DO get those big freelance writing jobs. Constantly writing will not only improve your skills, but it will keep you from getting 'rusty' and having to get back into the swing of things when you land that big job!
  3. Don't rule out small jobs. A lot of times smaller jobs can lead to bigger ones in more than one way. After a successful small assignment, a client may be willing to try you out on a bigger one. And smaller projects are great resume material to help boost your reputation and the chances you can land that big job!
  4. Work with a strong team of freelance writers. Sometimes it takes someone who has experience in procuring writing jobs to get that big job for you. So look for a group of writers that has a strong proposal writer that can get jobs for the whole group to keep everyone busy!

By following these four simple steps, you can be writing the big jobs and making bank in no time at all! If you have any questions about jobs, how to get them, and how I can possibly help, send me an email or write me a comment!
